Discovering The World Of Wren Cabinet Makers!

If you make your way to North Yorkshire and the picturesque district of Hambleton, you’ll find the delightful little village of Thirlby, right on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.

Somewhat unassuming and incredibly peaceful, the village itself is home to fewer than 150 residents – but it does have one serious claim to fame… Wren Cabinet Makers!

This small family-run business was founded by artisan woodcarver Bob Hunter, who has lived in Thirlby all his life and continues with his craft even now, making the most beautiful furniture by hand.

His son David has also been working in the business for over 40 years – and his grandson Jack has been working with them both for eleven years… a true family business if ever there was one!

Every piece of furniture, big and small, bears a handcarved wren somewhere in the wood, the chosen symbol of the company because a wren was often found perched on the rafters above the workshop when the business was first launched and the birds are still very much in evidence in the yard.

There’s absolutely no mass production to be found here and everything is produced by hand, with the wood carvers happy to create truly bespoke items for their clients.

Here at JCB Workwear, we love championing local businesses and hearing the stories behind them and the hardworking people turning their dreams into a reality – and we’ve just featured a video with Bob, David and Jack over on our YouTube channel so you can find out even more about them and the fascinating history of Wren Cabinet Makers.

If you’d like to be one of our featured businesses, get in touch with the JCB Workwear team today.
