Green Light For First Meridian Water Homes

The sight of construction workers wearing JCB work clothes is about to become a familiar one in Enfield after the borough council gave the green light for the first 300 homes to be constructed in the Meridian Water development.

Developers Vistry Partnership is also working with the council on plans to advance a planning application for 700 more homes later this year, of which 50 per cent would be classed as affordable. This initial phase of the plan is known as Meridian One.

Meridian Water is a scheme that will eventually see 10,000 new properties being developed in the Lee Valley, as part of a £6 billion, 25-year development plan also aimed at creating thousands of new jobs. The development is being constructed adjacent to the Lee Valley heritage Park, with access to and use of the river being a major part of the scheme.

Enfield Council Leader Nesil Caliskan, said: “This is a huge moment for Meridian Water and a giant leap forward for housing provision in Enfield.”

He added: “Meridian Water will provide thousands of good quality affordable homes in our borough and will play a major role in tackling the housing shortage here.”

Managing director of Vistry Partnerships London Developments Matthew Taylor said the firm had “worked closely” with the council to develop the plans, adding: “Meridian One is a huge opportunity to transform this area into a vibrant place for people to live.”

Construction work on the new homes is set to start in July and the first homes are set to be completed in September.

Much work has already been undertaken on developing the100-hectare site, including the opening of the new Meridian Waters railway station in 2019 and a deal agreed between Enfield Council and Troubadour Theatres in January to build new film and TV studios there.
