A 515-home landmark residential-led development could be in the offing for the Wembley area of north-west London, after landowner Canada Israel and development manager Avanton submitted a planning application to Brent Council.
If approved, the £250 million development will transform the existing Stonebridge Place site, with the centrepiece being a 32-storey tower offering panoramic view towards Wembley Stadium and across north London.
As well as the new homes, of which 341 will be for market sale and 117 for affordable rent, the project also envisages creating 1,200 sq ft of commercial space and a boxing gym. The new tower and a series of stepped buildings will be built around the existing WEM tower, a former office building recently converted to flats.
Managing director of Canada Israel UK Gil Selzer said: “This proposed residential-led development at Wembley Point is a major urban regeneration project that will create a new destination for South Wembley.”
While the planning process takes place, construction workers may be very busy with the other developments rising up across a busy area of London that has been undergoing major redevelopment since the stadium itself was rebuilt in the 2000s.
Those working on such sites as the weather warms up this spring may want to invest in some lightweight work trousers as the thicker, warmer winter gear goes back into the cupboard for a few months.
New projects in the Wembley area continue to emerge thick and fast. Last month, a joint proposal by Barratts and Transport for London for a development near Wembley Park was given the green light by housing minister Eddie Hughes.
The 454-home scheme had been called in last year by the then communities secretary Robert Jenrick, amid concerns about the visual impact on listed buildings in the Barn Hill and Lawn Court Conservation Areas. However, it was recommended for approval by the planning inspector due to benefits such as the provision of affordable homes and good re-use of brownfield land.
