Padded Gilets: Ideal Jacket To Wear In Between The Seasons

We might be one month into springtime, but the weather is still hit and miss most days. That is why knowing what to wear, particularly when you’re working on site every day, can be really difficult.

If you layer up with a waterproof work jacket, it might protect you from the April showers, but you may feel too warm by the end of the day. However, if you opt for a cool T-shirt instead, then you will become drenched once the heavens start to open.

One option is to wear a hybrid padded gilet, which is ideal for this period in between seasons. Here are some benefits of this type of cover-up to see you through until the temperature begins to slowly creep up.

Water resistant

The jacket is made from polyester ripstop fabric, which makes it 100 per cent water resistant. Therefore, while your arms, which are not covered, will get wet, you can be confident your torso will remain dry and warm if it begins to rain.

It isn’t just the outer layer that can protect you from the elements though, as the twill fleece lining is also water resistant. This means your body will not get cold and wet, which can dampen productivity on a worksite.

    Doesn’t restrict movement

The reason gilets were invented in the first place is because they provide warmth without restricting movement for the wearer. Therefore, people can stretch their arms and move about more easily than if they were wearing a jacket, at the same time as staying warm if the temperature is still mild.

      Keeps you warm

Gilets are typically well-padded, so you can be confident they will keep you toasty, even if they do not include sleeves.

The 140gm of polyester traps in heat, so workers do not have to worry about being outside all day in low temperatures, as they can stay warm.

They also tend to include a chin guard, protecting your neck and chin from the cold winds. Those working from height will particularly appreciate this, as it can get extra nippy the higher up you go.

If the temperature feels too chilly to have your arms exposed, you can always wear a warm fleece bodywarmer underneath it. They are designed to fit over both jumpers and lighter tops, making them very versatile, as they can be worn in most weather conditions.

This still makes them flexible, so you can have unrestricted movement while wearing one without getting cold.

        Lots of pockets

Gilets have to be useful for tradesmen, otherwise they will be quickly replaced with jackets that are. That is why they have plenty of pockets, including one on each side and a chest pocket, all with zips.

This is really important to workers, as they need somewhere to keep smaller items or personal effects without having to move positions too much.

They might be stuck in an awkward place, such as the roof, for a lengthy period of time, so being able to have their mobile phone always accessible is not only more convenient, but better from a safety point of view.
